April 2011 to Present: Lead Sales Engineer / SE Manager, VSS Monitoring –Responsible for maintaining a strong network and security background, understanding all details of the networking products that VSS Monitoring sells, coordinating and responding to RFPs, producing Visio diagrams to support the sales process, support, training and hiring additional engineers, and working with other engineers to demonstrate the functionality and ROI of the products.

  • Consistently met or exceeded quota, achieving 1.6x in Q2 2012, 2.1x in Q1 2013, and 1.4x in Q3 2014.
  • Designed, configured, proposed and closed multiple unique opportunities to meet varying customer needs.
  • Increased sales with multiple tool vendors by 4-6 times, including OpNet and FireEye.

August 2006 to April 2011: Security Solutions Architect, IBM – Supported three RSMs from a technical perspective, designing solutions, presenting technical briefings and installing POCs at prospective customer sites. Other responsibilities included maintaining a strong security background, understanding all security products that IBM sells, coordinating and responding to RFPs, and working with other sellers to demonstrate the functionality and ROI of the joint solution.

  • Made President’s Club in first full year as Sales Engineer, selling 120% of stated quota for the year.
  • Created innovative solution for large credit card processing company, culminating in $1.3M order.
  • Consistently rated as a solid contributor to sales team, including getting new Sales Managers up to speed on current products.

July 2004 to August 2006: IT Security Manager, Colorado Springs Utilities – Supervised and coordinated efforts to secure the network infrastructure of 2000 person company covering 200 sq. miles and more than 30 separate buildings. Equipment maintained included 35 firewalls, multiple IPS sensors, AV deployment to all workstations and active scanning tools. Equipment secured included 1400+ workstations, 200+ servers and 100+ routers and switches. Expanded security program by fostering a strong relationship with upper management. Maintained a budget of $1,000,000 for security tools and training.

  • Recognized as a top performer on evaluation of 2005. Nominated for Management Fast Track program in 2005.
  • Increased security awareness within the organization by instituting security awareness training for all new employees.
  • Created HIPAA program for CSU and trained 200+ IT and HR employees in proper HIPAA procedures.
  • Instituted policy requiring security representation on all new projects, ensuring new projects had proper security support.

August 2003 to July 2004: IT Security Supervisor, Peterson AFB, BD Systems – Responsible for network security for the 50th AF Space Wing, including 5000+ workstations, 100+ servers, 6 firewalls and security equipment. Supervised 5 individuals and made recommendations on software that was installed across the network. Coordinated responses to NOTAMs and ensured that all systems were patched regularly. Maintained a budget of $500,000 for security related tools and training.

  • Lead local team in BlackDemon exercise in March 2004, and was only AF wing not broken into during multiple exercises.
  • Limited infection of Blaster virus to 3% of the systems on the network, causing minimal issues and 0 network downtime.
  • Coordinated base-wide AV program, including officers from multiple organizations and government contractors.

March 2003 to August 2003: Security Consultant, XS Security – Independent consultant responsible for all areas of business including on-site consulting, report delivery, billing, new business, and problem resolution.

February 2000 to March 2003: Director of Security, PoliVec – Held multiple positions including director of consulting services, sales engineer, and product manager. Responsibilities included delivery of all consulting reports to customers, creating product timeline schedules, creating security content for multiple products and evaluating from 4-10 direct supports.

  • Designer and Product Manager of Polivec Scanner, first commercial product by Polivec, released in 2001.
  • Principal security resource on PoliVec Builder and Enforcer, including recommendations on tool design.
  • Traveled to APAC and nationwide to support tool deployment, conference speaking engagements and sales calls.
  • As Security Director, increased services from $0 in 1999 to $750K in 2002 with team of 4 security engineers.

April 1997 to February 2000: Security Engineer, DMW Worldwide – Responsible for evaluating commercially available network operating systems, including NT Server, Novell NetWare and UNIX OSes, to determine the availability and effectiveness of security mechanisms. Developed product specific security implementation specifications and provided security training related to these products. Researched and validated NT-related security vulnerabilities for inclusion into the vulnerability and exploit database and provided expert support to consulting services as required to meet customer obligations.

  • Promoted from Security Engineer to Lead Engineer after several successful engagements.

September 1993 to April 1997: Systems Engineer, Trident Data Systems – Supported the SPACELAN contract, answering calls, troubleshooting problems and supporting user base of 3000+ users, and 50+ servers across Falcon and Peterson AFBs.

  • Created innovative script to send mail between 30+ MS Mail servers via Exchange server, script requested by Microsoft.
  • Coordinated and led complete data center upgrade, gutting and restoring 1000sf data center in under 48 hrs. in 1995.
  • Promoted to lead engineer in 1994 after 6 months on contract, leading team of 7 individuals to cover growing help desk.
